“Free Democrats” Party is deeply grateful to the U.S. States Senate Foreign Relations Committee for adopting the Resolution recognizing the Armenian Genocide.
We commend the Chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee Robert Menendez for his leadership in strong support and dedication to the pursuit of official recognition of the Armenian Genocide. We also applaud the principled stance of Robert Menendez and other members of the Committee who supported the Resolution, to the human rights, basic universal values and acknowledgement of historical facts.
This adoption of the Genocide Resolution in advance of the 99th anniversary of Armenian Genocide is not only a historical event, but also an important stage in the effort for official recognition of the Armenian Genocide by the U.S. Government.
Also, the adoption of the Genocide Resolution is a signal to the world community that the Armenian Genocide is an undeniable fact. Moreover, considering the current geopolitical developments and the sensitive situation in the region, the adoption of the Genocide Resolution is an important step by the democratic U.S., on the way to restoration of historical truth and prevention of crimes against humanity.
We very much hope that the Genocide Resolution will be adopted by the full Senate and the House of Representatives as well, and ultimately the U.S. President will acknowledge the factsof the first and still-unpunished genocide of 20th Century.
