The delay in Armenia’s joining the Eurasian Economic Union is exclusively associated with the current political purchase and sale between Russia and Azerbaijan. The opposition Deputy of the Armenia’s National Assembly, Khachatur Kokobelyan said in the interview with the correspondent of News.am.
According to him, Armenia’s joining the Eurasian Economic Union, unfortunately, does not depend on the Armenian authorities. “The delay in Armenia’s joining the Eurasian Economic Union is associated not only with the technical problems as the Armenian authorities including the Ministry of Foreign Affairs are mentioning. If Armenia joins this unpromising Union the opportunities for purchase and sale between Russia and Azerbaijan will be subjected to certain restrictions. It is not a secret that the Azerbaijan’s press circulates information that if Russia is able to ensure the return of three liberated territories, Azerbaijan will discuss the issue of its joining the Eurasian Economic Union”- noted Khachatur Kokobelyan.
It should be recalled that on July 3, the Prime Minister of Armenia, Hovik Abrahamyan announced that the reasons for delay in Armenia’s joining the Eurasian Economic Union are still unknown, but, in any case, there is not a serious political problem. He said that an agreement had been reached about a meeting of the presidents of Russia and Armenia on July 3, but the meeting did not take place. However, the Prime Minister expressed confidence that till the end of the year the issue of Armenia’s joining the Eurasian Economic Union will be resolved.
